Clothing is a necessity in our society.  We need to cover our bodies.  Clothing disguises and conceals our physical imperfections, whether real or imagined.  In many Middle Eastern countries the argument still rages as to how covered a woman should be.  In many modern societies women still wear long skirts and will not show their legs.  Beachwear has become more revealing than at any other time in history and images of unadorned bodies has become almost the norm in the advertising industries.  Fashion design must take into account the roles of different parts of society although no one expects that they will ever please everyone or be able to cater for everyone.
