Interesting frame drums
Did you know that not all frame drums are round? For example, in Ghana there is a square frame drum called a tamalin, that is used in playing certain types of Ashante and Ewe music. Oddly enough, you can even find square and rectangular frame drums in China and other parts of the far east. Personally, I would have believed that round frame drums to be easier to make it and to have a more consistent pull on the goat skin or sheepskin which would give it a more consistent and better sound. But, that just goes to show that even a good old percussionist like me can still be in the dark about things.
