A soft universalist point of view

Perhaps one of the most important ethical decisions I have made is that concerning honesty.  I believe that it is within everyone’s best interest to adhere to honesty whenever possible.  I feel that there is an underlying moral code within societies to do just that and this is no type of magic tricks and illusion.  This is a soft universalist point of view.  This theory states that there are at least some values that human beings share in common, such as compassion or honesty.  I find it easy to be honest, as I feel most people are being honest with me.  The advantages to this assumption of honesty become obvious through facilitation of communication between members of society or cultures.  Trust seems to inherently lead to friendship and compassion, which strikes me as an underlying universal truth.
